Worcester City Res 5,

Evesham Utd Ladies 1

AFTER taking an early lead in Sunday's Women's County Lea-gue game, United capitulated to a heavy defeat as they gifted their hosts all five goals in an all-round below par performance.

A second minute clearance by goalkeeper Mandy Upton was flicked on by Becky Handy to Lola Hughes who in turn set Sam Perry free to race on and steer the ball into the net.

The good start was all undone in the tenth minute with the first of the afternoon's howlers.

It then got worse as City, who also hit the crossbar, took the lead after 21 minutes and then made it 3-1 five minutes before half-time.

Straight from the restart, United should have pulled a goal back but a shot from Amy Summers shot was blocked by the Worcester keeper.

Another goalkeeping error gifted Worcester a fourth goal but Mandy Upton did produce two good stops to prevent the visitors inflicting more embarrassment.

With the result now in no doubt the next thirty minutes proved a pretty turgid offering as both teams appeared to be playing for the final whistle.

However, ten minutes from time, the game sprang back into life and City went close before Perry was just unable to find the net from two decent chances.

With the game in stoppage time another Upton was again beaten to heap further misery on the visiting side.

Evesham's final game is at home to Malvern Town on Sunday, April 30 (2pm).
