MEXICAN guitarist Morgan Szymanski captivated an audience which included many enthusiasts of the instrument at the society's April concert.
The programme began with Ponce's Suite in La Mineur, followed by four contrasting pieces by Mangore, culminating with the exacting Maxixe.
After the interval came four works by the composer Piazzolla, who is mostly associated with the tango.
The scheduled programme ended with probably the best known music of the evening, Albeniz's Suite Espanola.
Originally composed for the piano, the four delightful and atmospheric movements are familiar to all music lovers.
After rapturous applause, Morgan returned to play Coros by the little known composer Jaob Permambuco.
Two days after his appearance in Redditch, Morgan was off to Mexico for a series of concerts.
The final concert of the season on May 6 was given by the Vivo Ensemble, comprising the Swedish mezzo soprano Caroline Amneus, the Irish clarinetist Ciaran O'Donnell and Malasian pianist Jeanette Chuin Chieh Wong. They studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire where, between them, they won all the major prizes.
The programme included music by Finzi, Mozart, Debussy and Spohr.
