DESPITE World Cup fever at the weekend, Redditch revellers stayed trouble-free, police have reported.

Sgt Julian Smith said that as expected, pubs in the town centre were very busy on Saturday due to both the hot weather and the football.

"There were a total of six football-related incidents reported, resulting in three arrests and two offences of criminal damage being recorded," he said.

No fixed penalty notices were issued for drinking offences.

Sgt Smith added: "Due to our detailed planning, high visibility policing and the co-operation of the licensed trade, people were generally sensible and disorder was kept to a minimum on Saturday.

"We hope this will continue throughout the World Cup tournament and look forward to reporting a similar trend following the next England match on Thursday."
