A DISABLED Lakeside mum claims Redditch Council has broken promises made to find her a new home -- despite telling her she lives in an uninhabitable house.

Tracie Eaton, 34, was told four weeks ago that her Kingsley Avenue council house was unfit to live in because of damp problems and the council would have to re-house her.

"I have got bare bricks in the kitchen, the plaster is falling off and the wallpaper is hanging off.

"They have to take plaster off the whole of the house -- it's unfit to live in," she said.

"I have got cancer, I have a little boy who is five and I'm registered disabled so they told me I was top of the housing list -- but houses are going to other people and no-one will help me, I keep getting shoved to different departments."

Her mum Valerie Edwards said they had been told Tracie was top priority and the family had been advised to look around the area for empty properties.

But she said houses they had found had been allocated to other people, including one her own step-daughter had moved out of.

She added: "They didn't even know she had left so how could it have been allocated?"

A council spokesman said although they had advised it would be beneficial not to be in the house while work was being carried out, being in it would not be prejudicial to her health.

"With regard to moving from the property, officers are currently working with Ms Eaton to find a suitable move.

"Officers do not encourage tenants to look for empty properties as invariably officers are aware of them and an appropriate allocation has already been made," he said.

"Priority has been given to Ms Eaton and hopefully an offer will be made as soon as a suitable property becomes empty."
