A DETERMINED Tibberton man is set to pit his physical prowess against hundreds of other competitors in an Ironman challenge.

Property developer Tom Forrester, who lives in Tibberton, near Droitwich Spa, will be heading to Exmoor in Devon this Sunday to push himself to the limit. During the challenge Tom will swim 1.2 miles across a lake, cycle for 56 miles and endure a 13.1 mile half marathon.

Tom is taking part in the event to raise money for St Richard's Hospice as a thank you for their care of his mother-in-law Lin Dayus before her death last year.

He is hoping that sponsorship from friends and family will top £500 and boost the charity's work caring for those with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses.

Tom said: "Lin was an inspirational woman who was a very competitive athlete and competed in many triathlons and also the London Marathon. It was Lin's bravery and strength throughout her illness that inspired me to take on this challenge. Ironically, the date of the triathlon would also have been Lin's birthday."

Tom is busy training around 16 hours a week, including regular swimming sessions at Droitwich baths.

"I'm training at least two hours a day during the week and more at weekends. It's a big challenge for me and I want to give it my all to make it worth taking part," he said.

St Richard's fundraiser Alison Weston said: "We're very grateful to Tom for undertaking this challenge. Every penny he raises will help pay for the specialist hospice care and support of patients and their families."
