DROPPED catches may have cost Redditch victory in their Division Three clash at table-topping St Georges on Saturday but skipper Nev Mason remains confident for the remainder of the season.

An excellent 95 from opener Joe Hill was the highlight for the Bromsgrove Road side but Mason is urging his players to battle on.

"We have another tough game against Berkswell this weekend but we have to keep fighting," he explained. "All we have to do is believe in ourselves and we could be up there looking at a top four finish."

Redditch batted first and Dan Protherough (21) and Hill put on 59 for the first wicket before the former was dismissed.

There were further contributions from Russell Southwick (42) and Jack Williams (26 no) but the visitors had to settle for 234 all out.

In reply, St Georges were under pressure early on and found themselves reduced to 61-2, Robin Biddle taking both wickets.

But the home side were let off the hook when no fewer than four catches went to ground and they eased to a comfortable win.

"We knew it was going to be difficult because we felt we were probably 30 runs short, especially against a top-of-the-league side," the skipper said.

"We then dropped some catches and Lady Luck did not go our way. One of the catches was when they were 80-2 and there were two or three other near misses. If we had taken those then we could have gone on and won."

Saturday's visitors Berkswell can boast a number of ex county players in their side including former Warwickshire favourite Dominic Ostler.

"This will be another tough game against another top side," Mason added. "But we then have some big games against sides near us in the league."
