Bromsgrove 204 all out Walmley 208-3

Bromsgrove lost by seven wickets

BROMSGROVE'S batsmen were taught a lesson in how to score runs by Tariq Mohammed as his century steered Walmley to victory in the Birmingham and District League Division One.

The Boars' batsmen failed to build on several promising positions at Walmley and suffered the consequences, as veteran Mohammed's 103 inflicted Bromsgrove's second successive defeat on Saturday.

Captain Nick Davies was left to rue his side's poor batting over the last few games.

He said: "It's been the same old story over the last few weeks. We won the toss and opted to bat but we didn't get enough runs on the board.

"There was some variation in the pitch but we should have got some more runs."

"We should have gone onto to set a bigger target for Walmley but we never recovered from the loss of a few wickets."

Despite on paper a strong looking batting order Bromsgrove have struggled to take advantage of grounds with small boundaries.

Against Harborne a week before Bromsgrove fell 70 runs short of a good total and the team made the same mistake at Walmley.

Davies was dismissed by Navdine Poonie for 36 runs, before the Walmley player then bowled Omar Ali for five.

Australian Simon Allison looked in good form and struck 67, before he was caught by Gary Steer off Gary Broome.

Jordan Rose (21) was dismissed by Broome but Mark Evenson proved to be a steadying influenced with 41 not out.

However, Julian Court (8), John Duffy (8), Mark Bagley (2), Zafran Ali (2) and Nick Husbands (4) were all removed cheaply as Bromsgrove were bowled out for 204.

Bromsgrove needed early wickets to make an impact but Poonie hit 45 before he became Bagley's first victim.

Mohammed set about frustrating Bromsgrove's bowlers, before Carlos Prowse (32) was dismissed by Bagley.

Bagley finally made a breakthrough when he dismissed Mohammed but it was too little as Walmley made 208.

Davies said: "We could have bowled all day and not got them out.

"Tariq Mohammed is an experienced player and batted well.

"It makes a difference when one of your players gets a century.

"Mark Bagley and Mark Evenson bowled well but we never looked like getting them out."
