JUNIOR players at Pershore Cricket Club have been in red-hot form during the recent warm weather.

Angus Steele took an amazing six wickets without conceding a run in an Under-12 match against Evesham.

After the visitors had scored 103-7 in their 20 overs, the Kings School Worcester pupil left Evesham's reply in tatters and the scoreboard made sorry reading after the opening seven batsmen were back in the pavilion with only six runs on the board.

The opening bowler took two wickets in his first over before going on to claim four more in the space of five balls including a hat-trick as Evesham were all-out for 28.

Thirteen-year-old Sam Cross was another bowler to shine but only after Avoncroft's openers had piled up 182 last Saturday.

Cross's second spell yielded figures of 5-22 in six overs and left Pershore to score 286 for victory.

Phil Taylor (63) and John Thompson (79) combined for a superb second wicket stand and Rich Emsley then helped the latter continue the charge towards the target.

However, when Thompson fell to a smart boundary catch, Pershore still required 65 off just five overs but Jason Brown came up trumps.

The captain smashed an unbeaten 60 off just 22 balls to blast the club's third team to a five-wicket win with four balls to spare.

Pershore High School student, Courtney Hewison, played for Worc-ester Under-15s earlier this week and will also play in next month's Taunton Festival.
