WORCESTER Triathlon Club's Daniel Keen produced another excellent performance on Sunday morning at the prestigious Royal Windsor Triathlon.
Racing in the shorter sprint event held before the elite longer distance race, the Vale teenager beat off almost 300 fellow competitors to win the overall race as well as his age group category.
Staged in and around the grounds of Windsor Castle, the youngster showed no sign of nerves by emerging from the 750m open water swim just over a minute down on the leaders.
Keen then set off on the challenging bike course and managed to reduce the deficit to just under a minute ahead of the 5K run.
Showing exce-llent strength and speed, he breezed past the leading pair and had soon created a sizeable lead finally winning in the fastest overall run split with more than two minutes to spare in a total time of one hour, 22 minutes and 22 seconds.
Fellow club members also enjoyed success with Roger Day claiming second place in the super veteran category (33rd overall) in the Wantage Triathlon in a time of 2.21.50.
Daughter Marianne finished tenth in the senior female race in a time of 2.30.36 while also clocking the second fastest female swim split of the day.
This Sunday also saw the first qualifying race for the age group world championships at the ever-popular Shropshire Triathlon held at Ellesmere.
