SAM Thomson recorded his maiden half-century and secured maximum batting points last Saturday when Badsey had to settle for a winning draw at Belbrou-ghton.

The 16-year-old arrived at the crease with his side in trouble at 96-6 but he carried his bat for the remaining 18 overs as the visitors posted a 45-over score of 203-8.

Adam Westmacott and Michael Powell had earlier opened with a stand of 43 before the home attack seized control.

Ian Hardwick helped his teenage partner add 73 off 12 overs for the seventh wicket but Thomson was 67 not out at tea and Badsey were confident of securing a win.

George Cowley took wickets with successive deliveries after an opening stand of 34 and he went on to double his wicket tally as Belbroughton continued to struggle.

After 30 overs their reply was tottering at 77-7 but Stokes and Ross dug in before the penultimate pair batted out for a draw at 104-8.

The result leaves Badsey third in Division Four of the Worcestershire County League and in a good position to put pressure on the top two Barnards Green and Kidderminster Victoria.
