TWO of Evesham's top senior women rowers won gold at last Sunday's National Veterans Championships at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.

The double of Teresa Roberts and Tina Bonham put clear water between them and York BC in the A Double Sculls to collect gold after an easy win on the 1,000m course.

One hour later the duo were back on the water in the B event.

The heat was now starting to take its toll and, with a strong headwind, the women found the going tough when managing third against heavyweight crews from Cambridge 99 and Tide-way Scullers.

The pair's next big event is next month's Henley Veterans.

The club's junior women picked up a hat-trick of wins at Sunday's Reading Amateur Regatta.

Abi Penrose raced to an easy win over a home club sculler in the J15 Single Sculls on the 1,100m course. There was an all-Evesham final in the J14 version after Sam Edwards had overcome her Reading opponent to set up a final date with clubmate Ruth Whyman who emerged victorious.

There was a win too for the J13 quad of Amy Rutherford, Dani Symonds, Katie Baldwin and Nikki Pitchford, coxed by Jor-den Parsons.

Rowing over the shorter 500m course, the girls had a comfortable win in a straight final agai-nst Reading.

There will be a large turnout of senior and junior crews for this weekend's annual Stratford-on-Avon Regatta.

Junior boys crews, in training for National Championships, are heading for the Marlow Inter-national Regatta to gain experience over the 2,000m course.

The Evesham club is hosting the Golden Mile Indoor competition on Saturday, July 8.

Entries are still open for this popular event that coincides with the annual River Festival.

If you use an indoor machine then why not have a go at rowing 1,609m in the fastest time?

Entries cost £10 to include a Golden Mile T-shirt. Ring 01386 765785 or log on to www.evesham-rowing-club.co.uk for more details.
