THERE have been celebrations in Redditch after the town's oldest squash club clinched promotion.

Redditch Squash Club, based at the town's cricket, hockey and rugby club in Bromsgrove Road, finished second in Division Three of the Worcestershire League and can now look forward to challenging for Division Two honours next term.

And skipper Brendan O'Hara, who has been a member of the club since it first opened its doors nearly 30 years ago, said it had been a good year all round.

"We had a second team playing in Division Four for the first time and they did well captained by Dave Stewart," O'Hara explained.

"And work has also been carried on the courts and they are recognised as being the best in county."

O'hara added that one of the Redditch players, Geoff Haines, had also starred during the season, winning the league's individual championship. Dave Brown was crowned club champion.

Anyone interested in joining the club, where membership costs £40, should contact the rugby club on 62807.
