TWO people were arrested and sound equipment seized when police raided an illegal rave on the outskirts of Broadway this week.

More than 250 revellers were dispersed when officers swooped shortly after 4.30am on Monday at the site - off Fish Hill opposite the Broadway Tower.

West Mercia police broke up the party, held on private land, by blocking the access way to Fish Field.

But afterwards the owners of the land said minimum damage had been caused, with a few beer cans left on the ground and an access gate damaged.

Valerie Underhill, who lives near the Dormy House Hotel, said: "I could hear some sort of banging in the morning when I got up at 6am so I knew there was something going on but I didn't think it was going at my site.

"My brother, Ken, who lives near my land heard all the noise. Although I have never seen this lot before, I have to say in all fairness they left the site in a reasonable state. There were only a few beer cans and a damaged gate but overall it was left in a reasonable state."

Ken Brain, 57, from Peters Farm in Broadway opposite Fish Field, heard the all-night outdoor event said: "Our next door neighbour also had a party on Sunday night so we actually thought the noise was coming from that direction but when it continued until 4am we realised it was coming from my sister's site."

At about 4.30am Ken spotted police officers arriving at The Fish Field site preventing more partygoers attending the event.

A police spokesman said: "Despite a series of other major incidents overnight in the area, we managed to deploy a sufficient amount of officers to deal with this incident."

He added that there had been two arrests for "associated minor offences".
