A BIDFORD parish councillor has called for a century-old book about life in the village and its surrounding area to be reprinted.

Mike Gerrard, of Holland Close, Bidford, was given the book, Souvenir of Bidford and Neighbourhood, by a friend after he had produced a village appraisal in 2003, giving local residents a snapshot of life at the start of the 21st Century.

Now he would like the opportunity for local people to travel back in time 100 years to learn about life before they were born.

Cllr Gerrard said: "My friend gave me this book which shows a snapshot of what Bidford was like in the early part of the 20th century. I showed the book to the Bidford and District History Society who were fascinated by how the village used to be, with businesses that no longer exist and very few phones."

The book was published to provide visitors and travellers with a concise handbook detailing activities and attractions in Warwickshire towns.

The handbook was priced at three shillings - 15p at today's rate - and contains pictures and details descriptions of the region.

Cllr Gerrard added: "It would be nice if there were many more copies such as this available so people could learn about how things were a hundred years ago.

"It's a tremendous book that's older than anyone in the village and captures life in Bidford that no-one could tell us about."

Mike Gerrard is looking for a local publisher to print the Souvenir of Bidford and Neighbourhood to sell to the residents of Bidford.
