INVESTIGATIONS were continuing this week after five crews from nine different area including Evesham spent three hours battling a potentially hazardous blaze at Bomford Turner in Salford Priors last Wednesday.

Evesham fire fighters joined Bidford, Stratford, Alcester, Studley, Henley, Warwick, Leamington and Atherstone fire crews at the agricultural machinery firm just before 4am after a passer by raised the alarm.

On arrival, Brian Wilkes of Bidford said the flames could be seen billowing from the roof of the paint shop, which was severely damaged, and large amounts of smoke from other areas of the building.

Three main jets were used to extinguish the fire with additional water coming from an on-site tank and hydrants.

European operational director for Bomford Turner, Bob Hope, said: "The fire occurred at one of our small paint shops but thanks to the efforts of the fire crews who controlled it, we could be back in production in a very short time.

"Luckily, the fire didn't occur at the main paint shop so we haven't had to lay off any workers, but in terms of how much money we've lost because of this that's being dealt with by our insurance company. A small amount of work is going out to small contractors within the area."

Warwickshire's fire investigating officer, Steve West, is still investigating the cause of the fire.
