HOUSEHOLDERS throughout the Vale have been urged to ensure their windows are closed and locked at nights despite the hot weather.

The warning come from South Worcestershire police after a spate of break-ins through open windows during last weekend's heatwave.

Police spokesman Mike Vockins said: "The hot spell and the high temperatures make it tempting to leave doors and windows open, even at night, but this just makes life all too easy for thieves.

"Whatever the temperature, it is important for all householders to remain aware of the need for making their homes sensibly secure, and not an invitation for burglars."

Detectives were this week investigating three separate burglaries across South Worcestershire where entry had been gained through an insecure door or window.

One of them occurred between midnight and 6.30am on Sunday morning at Three Springs Road, Pershore.

Thieves gained entry through an open downstairs window and escaped with electrical equipment valued at around £1,500 - a 32in LCD television, a digital camera and a laptop computer.

At about the same time, a wallet containing cash, bank cards and other personal items was stolen from a cottage at Pull Court, Bushley, when the thief entered through an open sitting-room window.

The same night, a sneak-in burglary netted the thief cash from a purse, wallet and a cash box prised from the television set.

Police would like to hear from local residents or other members of the community who may have seen or heard something suspicious in the vicinity of the burglaries late Saturday or early Sunday morning. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 08457 444 888.
