A MOTHER smashed a glass into her partner's face because she thought he was socialising with a drug user, magistrates heard.

Chantelle Brown, 26, of Clayfield Road, Bretforton, then attacked the other man with the broken pint glass as he tried to restrain her.

Magistrates heard how Brown's partner Marc Bradley's injuries were so severe his face was bleeding profusely and he had to have treatment on four lacerations.

Brown, who has anger management problems, appeared before Worcester Magistrates Court where she admitted two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Prosecuting, Douglas Marshall said Bradley had been in a relationship with Brown but there were problems as he was addicted to heroin and she had a violent disposition under the influence of drink.

The court heard how Bradley decided this March to get off his drug dependency in a bid to improve their relationship and, by the following month, he thought any issues they had were resolved.

However, Mr Marshall said that on Saturday, April 8, they went to buy some cricket equipment for her son, later ending up at Chancers pub in Evesham's Vine Street.

He described how Brown became concerned after Mr Bradley started talking to a friend there - Marvyn Ritchie - because she thought he was a fellow drug-user.

Magistrates heard how a row then erupted and Brown followed Mr Bradley out of the pub with a pint glass under her arm.

Mr Marshall said: "No sooner had he turned around to face her then she took the glass out and smashed it on his face, which bled profusely.

"He put his hands to his face at this point and felt blood spurting everywhere."

Mr Marshall said Mr Ritchie intervened in an attempt to restrain Brown and was left with scratches on his neck and face as she tried to grind the broken glass into him.

The court was told Brown had previous convictions for offences of violence including assaulting a police officer.

In mitigation, Nick Roberts said it was a case where magistrates needed to see reports before sentencing.

Magistrates said the case was too serious to be dealt with by them and adjourned the case until Friday, July 14 for sentencing at Worcester Crown Court.
