FOOTBALL fans are being urged to give unnecessary waste the boot - by recycling the mountain of extra cans and bottles they generate during the World Cup.
Residents thirsting for an England victory look set to crack open thousands of extra cans and bottles of beer and soft drinks as they cheer on Sven's men from their living rooms. Newspapers, magazines and cardboard packaging will also be affected.
The partying spree, however, is set to generate a mountain of World Cup waste and Wyre Forest District Council is encouraging fans to recycle throughout the tournament.
Officers hope it will continue the success of last year, when 25 per cent of waste was recycled across the Wyre Forest district.
Councillor Marcus Hart, who is responsible for commercial services, said: "It would be great if we could exceed this figure."
