WYRE Forest cycle racing club's top junior racer Oli Graham produced a stunning performance to finish fifth in the National Junior Championships 25-mile time trial.

The 16-year-old overcame a hamstring problem which has dogged him for most of the season to power around the undulating course at Princethorpe, Warwickshire.

After a solid start, Graham prouduced a speedy second half burst to cross the line in 57 minutes and 59 seconds, just 17 seconds off a bronze medal.

Alex Dowsett was crowned national junior champion with a winning time of 54-10.

Wyre Forest cycle racing club will be marking National Bike Week with a one-hour family bike ride from Stourport on Monday. It leaves the sports centre, in The Kingsway, at 7pm, and is open to everybody with each finisher receiving a certificate.

Dave Barnes did Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club proud after testing himself against the best of British at the Senior National Championships.

Barnes clocked 54 minutes 52 seconds to finish 23rd out of 150 in the 25-mile time trial at Princethorpe in Warwickshire.

Gary Bartram put in another strong ride to finish with 59-28 for 92nd place overall. Nat-ional champion was Jason Macintyre with a time of 50-43.

Paul Prince notched up his fourth open win with victory in the Redditch Road and Path CC 10-mile time trial on the Evesham bypass.

Prince produced an awesome performance in the warm and windy conditions to finish in 21-33.

Steve Burns returned to form to clock 22-20, while Paul Carson rode to his fastest time in nine years with 22-22 to secure the team prize for a dominant Wyre Forest team.

Steve Dunn had mechanical problems just after the start and despite having to stop momentarily, still recorded 22-32, while John Callaghan clocked 23-35, Richard Pedersen 23-43, Karl Davies 24-03, Dean Harrison 25-05 and Matt Krstic 25-35.

Veteran Mick Gray braved windy conditions to record 1-05-38 at the South Wales Veteran Time Trials Assoc-iation 25-mile time trial at Glenneath on Saturday, missing his best ever time by just 16 seconds.

Chris Morris rode to victory in the latest round of the club events competition on Tuesday evening. He powered around the undulating 10- mile Warndon course to finish in 22-42 and extend his overall lead in the current standings. Ruth and Phil Blacker set a new tandem course record with 22-59.
