FOOTBALLERS, cricketers and rugby players are going head-to-head on the green in aid of charity.

Sporting heroes from Worcestershire County Cricket Club, the Warriors and Worcester City will show off their swings on Monday, June 19, at Sapey Golf Club, near Bromyard, to raise money for the Prince's Trust.

About 20 teams will take part in the charity golf day, teeing off at noon, including the four professional sports teams.

Scheduled to play for Worcestershire County Cricket Club are Steve Rhodes, Graeme Hick, Ben Smith and Steven Moore.

For Worcester Warriors it is Tony Boddy, John Brain, Tony Window and a player who is yet to be confirmed.

The line-up for Worcester City is manager Andy Preece, as well as Andy Morrison, Jai Stanley and Paul Curtis.

There is also an England Rugby Veterans team which is likely to feature Martin Cooper, Jan Webster, John Finlan and Gerry Acton.

There will be prizes for the best team, the team nearest to the pin, sponsored by car firm Lexus, and the longest drive.

Worcestershire and England batting legend Graeme Hick said he reckoned it would be an enjoyable day for all the players concerned.

He said: "I enjoy a game of golf and a few of us like to play when we get the chance.

"It will be a fun day and it will be good to meet the Warriors and the Worcester City players."

Warriors player Tony Boddy said: "I'd say we are all what you'd call weekend players.

"Getting the cricket, football, rugby and old rugby players all together should be great. It's not just the golf, it's an occasion."

The aim of the Prince's Trust is to help young people aged 14 to 30 overcome the odds and realise their dreams through practical support, including training, mentoring and financial backing. This year, the charity is celebrating its 30th birthday.
