A CELEBRATORY tea party will be in full swing to mark Bewdley achieving Fairtrade Town status on Sunday.

The event, in the Jubilee Gardens, has been organised by Rev Keith James and the steering committee behind the campaign, which began two years ago.

There will be live music from the Ridge Top Mountain Boys, storytelling, big garden games and competitions and activities for all ages, as well as home-made cakes to sample and buy and free tea and coffee between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.

The Fairtrade mark ensures producers from the poorest parts of the world get a better deal and Bewdley's Fairtrade Town certificate will be presented to the Mayor at 3.30pm.

Councillor Anne Hingley, the district council's cabinet member for planning, health and environment, said: "Bewdley has set a fine example of how to achieve a really worthwhile status for the town.

"I urge everyone to come along on Saturday to join in the tea party celebrations. We wish the Fairtrade Group all the best for their continued success."

Tempting treats will also be on offer in Severnside North on Sunday, as French traders will be selling their produce between 10am and 4.30pm.
