KIDDERMINSTER'S High Street has a fresh look thanks to the launch of the new market.

More than 30 traders, selling everything from fresh produce to soft furnishings, are now operating from purpose-made stalls.

A bright colour scheme co-ordinates the look and stalls are now open from 9am until 4pm every Thursday.

The market , taken over two weeks ago by Stourbridge-based company, LSD Promotions, has gone from strength to strength over the past two years, according to Wyre Forest District Council.

Market trader, Neil Harding, said: "Since the new market started, my business has really picked up. Two weeks ago, I had the best day I'd had in a long time. My takings were up around 40 per cent. The market certainly looks a lot better too."

Another trader, Bob Danks, agreed the market stalls, which were now uniform in colour, looked more presentable and he had received positive feedback.

District councillor Marcus Hart, who is responsible for commercial services, said: "It's great to see the town bustling on a Thursday.

"The market brings its own flavour to the High Street and we hope that the new-look stalls will continue to attract the locals, as well as the shoppers from further afield, who can buy specialist foods and unusual craft materials, as well as all the usual market attractions."
