SIR - I was delighted to read that there is hope that another supermarket group could get a 'trolley-hold' in the city.
Asda in a rejuvenated Lowesmoor Trading Estate would be welcome to shoppers tired of the Tesco/Sainsbury's stranglehold eventually to be repeated in St John's. Competition provides variety and forces prices down. Dr Malcolm Nixon (Letters, June 2) writes that the Lowesmoor conservation area is architecturally and historically far too precious to squander for a brief shopping experience.
I feel he has nothing to fear. Asda will stand on its head to get planning permission for their estate so near the city centre. It will be the supermarket jewel in the crown.
JOE WALTER,
Worcester.
