Coombswood v Barnards Green II

BARNARDS Green were surprised to be sent in first under a lovely blue sky but lost opener Plant in the second over.

John Sherliker joined Chris Horne and the pair gradually moved to 21, when Horne was bowled by Turner for 15.

Simon Ball ably supported his partner to take the score into the 80s before he was also bowled, for 17.

At the 30 over mark, with the score on 133, Anshuman and Sherliker decided to take the attack to the bowlers but the latter immediately perished, bowled by Peruzza for 67.

Anshuman (72) displayed a wide range of shots while James Scullion stylishly added six boundaries before being bowled for an impressive 32. With Dominic Horne cracking a four and six, the Green reached a competitive 237-8 off their 45 overs.

Coombswood set off at a fast rate but Adam Price ran-out Jeavons and Moseley edged Jamie Longmore to Horne at first slip.

Turner hit some lusty if unorthodox blows until Simon Ball, the pick of the Green bowlers, produced a superb slower ball to defeat him. No bowler could contain K Baker (62), who hit a series of powerful boundaries before being caught by Jamie Plant off a Wajzer wide full-toss.

Ball's 4-42 and Sherliker's 2-16 kept the pressure on but the score mounted and last-man Boswell prodded a single off the fourth ball of the last over to secure a home win.
