West Malvern v Belbroughton

West Malvern were sent in on a good wicket in sunny conditions but Tony Williams was smartly caught off a leading edge at mid-wicket for two in the third over.

Paul Smith (16), making his first appearance this season, played several majestic drives through the off-side until caught-and-bowled.

West Malvern appeared to be in some trouble at 44 for 2 in the 10th. Mark Groves joined the watchful Steve Wright and they negotiated some tight bowling from the Belbroughton youngsters, still together at the 30 over break.

At 110 for 2, first Groves and then Wright started to take control. They plundered 120 runs in the next 12 overs until an exhausted Groves was bowled for 91 (five sixes, eight fours) - their third wicket partnership worth 175 in 33 overs.

Shailly Badra (6no) provided excellent support to the rampant Wright, who made an undefeated 106, containing 16 boundaries.

West Malvern soon had the top order in trouble. Groves and Pete O'Connell, bowling together for the first time, shared the first six wickets.

Bob Rogers was in top form behind the wicket, taking catches off both bowlers and smartly stumping Whittaker off Groves, later claiming a second stumping.

At 35-6 it looked all over but Sam Turner (58) survived several opportunities and was well-supported by the tail. They dug in to frustrate the attack. O'Connell bowled his 12 overs in one spell, taking 3-13 with four maidens.

Belbroughton closed on 102-8. A winning draw but West Malvern rue missed chances.
