POLICE have raided the homes of drug dealers and money launderers across Worcestershire, seizing heroin and cocaine worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Sixteen houses and properties in Redditch and Bromsgrove were raided yesterday and 12 people were arrested in what police
officers describe as an ongoing covert operation.
In the major operation, code-named Gemini, cannabis with a street value of between £500,000 and £750,000 was seized.
West Mercia detectives are still investigating money laundering in relation to the houses, high value cars and electrical equipment to the value of £1m.
The raids were part of continuing efforts to crack down on the misery that drug abuse brings to individuals and communities.
They resulted in the discovery of a house where a large-scale industrialised production of cannabis was taking place, using a sophisticated hydroponic system.
Detective Superintendent Steve Pepper, who is leading the operation, said: "Our covert police
activity in recent months has already led to the seizure of
substantial quantities of heroin and crack cocaine.
"The message to drug dealers is, now you will lose not only your liberty, but also your profits."
Members of the all communities are being asked to support the police operations by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 if they have information about drug dealing or abuse in their area.
