ADAM Webster reckons it's time to stop blaming the St George's Lane pitch and get down to halting a miserable run of home results against Alfreton tomorrow.

City's play-off bid looks doomed after collecting just two points from a possible 12 at headquarters.

Strugglers Vauxhall Motors and Redditch United secured draws, while Moor Green and Stalybridge Celtic walked away with the full quota.

City failed to score in three of those games and player-manager Andy Preece claims the dismal pitch is the source of his side's troubles.

While Webster agrees that players are finding it difficult adapting to a surface baring little grass, he believes it is proving too easy an excuse for bad results.

"The pitch is playing its part," said the club's leading scorer. "The way we want to play and attack teams, it would be better if there was grass on the pitch.

"But both teams have to play on it. You play with what you've got at the end of the day. And, before the two home defeats, we were getting results.

"So we can do it -- it's just a matter of getting the mind focused on what you are playing on."

A tally of 19 points from a possible 25 on the road suggests City are finding life more comfortable away from the Lane.

But, with seven league games remaining -- and the play-offs still a possibility, albeit an unlikely one -- Preece's side must transfer their away-day form to Worcester.

Webster said: "It a shame we can't repeat these results at home. Sometimes it works out like that, but saying that, we've only been beaten a few times at home.

"Those two defeats (to Moor Green and Stalybridge) were the only ones since the New Year. We started 2006 with a draw against Stafford at home and not looked back since really.

"That's why we got the opportunity to get into the top 10 and then have a chance for the play-offs. But those two defeats have obviously set us back. The momentum was going well at the time, but that's football.

"If you switch off -- like in the game against Stalybridge -- then we only have ourselves to blame."

Stalybridge, Harrogate and Droylsden all stand in the way of a play-off place, but City face all three sides during the end-of-season run-in.

By winning all seven matches in April, City are not guaranteed to clinch fifth position, but Webster believes every effort should be made to land 21 points.

The 25-year-old added: "I would imagine we need to win all seven games. We are focusing on winning all our games one at a time and hoping other results go our way."

Webster will start alongside Troy Wood in attack with Leon Kelly poised to clinch his move to Hinckley United before today's 5pm transfer deadline.

Rookie goalkeeper Lewis Skyers steps in for his first league start of the season with Danny McDonnell out with a broken finger.

Jai Stanley, returning from a month's loan at Hednesford, is eager to reclaim his place, while Preece may be tempted to continue his experiment of fielding Chris Smith in midfield.
