PRIMARY school children in Worcester are set for an

exiting feast of books, poetry, drama and animation at the University of Worcester this summer.

From this Thursday to Wednesday, July 5, the university is hosting its second Children's Book and Media Festival in tandem with Worcester City Library, local schools and local and national artists.

A range of city schools such as Dines Green Primary, Oldbury Park Primary and St Clement's Primary are being invited to the event.

A play produced by the university's Magic Attic theatre group called Bombs And Bicycles is a highlight of the week, as well as poetry writing events with the children.

On Friday, June 30, pupils will get the chance to work with university tutor and professional film maker Gabby Morton Jones in making their own animated film at the new in-house digital arts centre.

University pro-vice chancellor Prof Judith Elkin said: "This is a special opportunity for us to celebrate, once again, our partners in local schools, libraries and the gaining of university status.

"Events like this are a marvellous way of our staff and students having a chance to share the expertise and facilities of the university with the wider community."

Dines Green Primary teacher Chris Healey said: "We very much value our links with the university and it is wonderful to be able to draw upon the facilities that it has to offer. It will be great for our budding writers and filmmakers to work with the experts."
