THE Alcester postman who was killed when his bike was struck by a lorry last May suffered multiple injuries, an inquest heard.

Niki Savage, 28, of Castle Road, died at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch on May 10.

He had been on his way to work, cycling on the A46 from his home in the early hours of the morning, when he was knocked off his bike.

His partner of seven years, Dawn Clee, attended yesterday's inquest, held in Leamington Spa.

Pc David Bull, of the Roads Policing Unit, Coleshill, confirmed that Bryan Beals, 60, of Kashmir Road, Leicester, had been committed to crown court under three charges of causing death by dangerous driving, failure to stop after a collision and failing to report a collision.

Warwickshire Coroner Michael Coker said the doctor's evidence showed the cause of death was due to multiple injuries and would be recorded as such. He added that because a trial was still to take place he would re-open the inquest after the hearing if he needed to.
