A GROUP of Matchborough youngsters were recently given the chance to grill the town's MP.

Jacqui Smith visited the Matchborough Youth Forum on June 16 to answer questions from members.

Councillor Juliet Brun-ner said the youngsters asked their MP how she became interested in politics and her role as Chief Whip.

"She brought along booklets to show where she sat when she was in the house and gave an explanation of the working of the houses of Parliament," she said.

"She was also asked whether she lived in Downing Street but she said she has an office in number nine and she talked about meeting daily with the Prime Minister and her home-work life balance."

Mrs Brunner said members of the forum felt the visit was a positive experience and had enjoyed looking at the books and talking to their MP.

She added: "They were delighted to receive a personal invitation to visit Number 10 and to go round the houses of Parliament and they are thrilled at the prospect of seeing democracy in action.

"We will be looking at fundraising ideas to enable them to attend this later in the year."
