A GROUP of angry housewives from the Charford estate were demanding parity with tenants in council flats and maisonettes elsewhere in the district. They complained they had to pay £7.61 a week for a two bedroom flat and £8.53 for a three bed maisonette. New regulations meant rents now had to be determined by the value of properties.
A GROUP of visitors from the USA paid a visit to Millfields school to see for themselves how the English education system worked. Some were staying with parents and would get a valuable insight into British family life.
