A BATTLING display from Redditch Swimming Club failed to halt their relegation to Division Two of the Nuneaton & District Diddy League.

Redditch finished fifth in the season's final gala in Halesowen, their best performance of the season not quite enough to keep them in the top flight.

The swimmers who represented the club this year are listed below:

nine-yr-olds: Caitlin Green, Charlotte Hooper, Nicola Moss, Eve Battle, Amber Fantham-Jones, Daniel Bridgman, William Fidoe, Christopher Sutton-Smith, Marcus Milton and Adam Watson.

ten-yr-olds: Lydia May, Amy Foster, Lucy Corden, Samantha Lindsay, Molly Dutton, Sasha Knibbs, David Green, Joshua Major-Seager, Taylor Hartley, Ben Young, Arran Holmes and Burgess Ellison.

11-yr-olds: Hannah Rolls, Sophie Bridgman, Emma Hardacre, Chloe Figgett, Sumant Kapoor, Tyler Sherwood, James Scott, Oliver Plevey and Jack Nash.

12-yr-olds: Elizabeth Humphreys, Michaela Britt, Olivia Laxton, Samantha Richards, James Green, Luke Young and Chris Ball.

A spokesman for the club said: "The search for next year's team is already on and we expect to be really competitive and pushing for the top of Division Two."

Redditch were just five points adrift of third place in a very competitive girls' gala held in Stratford on Saturday.

Ten-year-old May secured the only first place of the evening, taking the honours in the 2L freestyle.

Second places went to individual swimmers Nicola Moss (9) 1L free, Hannah Rolls (11) 2L breaststroke, Jessica Nice (15) 3L free and Rachel Jones (16+) 3L butterfly.

Third places went to Cassandra Robinson (11) and Sam Lindsay (10) 2L backstroke, Bethany May (13) 3L free, Nicola Moss (9) 1L fly, Lucy Edwards (15) and Michaela Britt (13) 3L breast, Hannah Rolls (11) 2L fly and Danielle Harwood (13) 3L fly.

There were also some fine displays from the relay teams.
