ASTWOOD Bank skipper Dan Evans hailed his side's victory over Division One leaders Kington as their best in league cricket.

The Herefordshire side came unstuck on a Jill Lane wicket that offered plenty to the bowlers, Bank's spin kings Ian Bowes and John Summers taking full advantage with four wickets apiece.

Bank batted first and struggled against some accurate bowling before reaching 141-9 thanks to Steve Clarke (35) and a solid start from opener Andy Clayton.

"We thought we had a chance because of how the wicket was," Evans explained. But those hopes seemed to disappear as Kington reached 75-0.

"We got one of the openers out and thought we could pinch a bonus bowling point," Evans added. "But then they lost another and when their third big-hitter went it gave everyone a lift. They then lost eight wickets for about ten runs."

Kington recovered their composure but were still bowled out for just 124 as Astwood Bank won by 17 runs.

"I think that has to be our best ever league result," the skipper said. "After our display against Bromyard last week, this has given everyone a real lift and has also taken us clear of the bottom clubs."

But Bank's Division One rivals Alvechurch suffered a 103-run defeat at Chaddesley Corbett, being dismissed for a paltry 81 as they looked to overhaul their hosts' 184 all out. Bowler Shashi Ranjan took 4-34 but the Hopwood side offered little with the bat.

Feckenham claimed an emphatic 98-run win at Amblecote in Division Three North, the visitors' total of 266-7 being too much for the Black Country side. Andy Kings (90) and Chris Perry (54) top scored for Feckenham.

Hewell conceded their Division Four match with Highley and stay rooted to the foot of Division Four.
