MANAGER Rod Brown has swooped for tried and trusted players to turn Bromsgrove Rovers into promotion contenders in the Southern League Midlands Division next season. The Rovers boss completed a hectic week behind the scenes at the Victoria Ground by bringing in six players. The manager has signed midfield veteran Mark Taylor, aged 39, from Redditch United and named him captain.Taylor was a key player for Brown when he helped Redditch United win promotion to the Nationwide Conference North in 2004.Brown has also brought in Halesowen duo Dean Coleman and Stuart Skidmore, Daire Doyle from Redditch, former Walsall midfielder Wayne Thomas and defender Ross Collins from Solihull Borough. The Rovers boss pin-pointed Taylor as a crucial signing for the Greens. He said: "Mark Taylor is still in fantastic shape. He was brilliant when Redditch United won promotion and he was just as good to help keep them up in their first season there.""He's a mammoth signing for the club. The younger players will learn loads off him and he still has a lot to give."I'll be making him my captain at Bromsgrove. Mark will lead by example and is going to be a great signing for the club."It is hoped that Coleman, aged 20, will be a direct replacement for Lee Evans in goal and will compete with Tim Clarke for a place in the team.Coleman was a product of Walsall's youth system and made a name for himself in the senior team with two penalty saves. He then moved to Halesowen Town last season and was an able goalkeeper - making 52 appearances. The only set back for Rovers is that the 'keeper has a trial with Crewe Alexandea on July 8.The manager said: "Dean's young and got a lot of potential. He played a lot of games for Halesowen last season and did a good job."We need at least two goalkeepers here and he'll be excellent competition for (Tim Clarke)."I'm hoping that even if Crewe want Dean they'll let us keep him on loan so he can get some games under his belt."Left sided midfielder Thomas, 26, also came through Walsall's junior ranks and was expected to burst into the first team. However, a car accident has kept him out of the game for three years. Skidmore, 25, started nine games for Halesowen Town last season.Rovers' fans will be glad to see Collins, who was always a reliable performer for Rovers at the centre of defence, return to the club he left in the winter of 2005.Doyle played several matches for Rovers in the Errea League Cup run and has moved fully from Redditch.Brown had already snapped up striker Richard Burgess from Stourport Swifts last week, while goalkeeper Evans and Matt Johnson left Rovers for Chasetown. With his squad bolstered the manager is looking forward to what he expects to be a hard season. He said: "It's going to be a lot harder to win the league next season and whoever finishes top is going to be a very deserved winner."But the players I have brought in will bring experience from a higher level and really improve the team.""With all the derbies we're having this is going to be a lot more exciting for the fans. I'm also confident the team will be better than last season."

Rovers have struck a deal to have kits and training gear provided by Italian sportswear giants Errea. The shirts will also be sponsored by Lee Prudden Tool Hire.Ambitious work to increase the size of the changing rooms starts at the Victoria Ground next week. There will also be a new players' treatment and rehab room built by the Victoria Club, which will be used by physio Steve Ball.
