THIS cute little bundle is receiving extra special care and attention from keepers at West Midland Safari Park.

The big-eyed baby wallaby, who is being hand-reared, has been wrapped up in this warm jumper to give her the same comfort her mother's pouch would provide.

Named Roo, after the Winnie the Pooh character, this tiny creature was found lying on the ground three months ago after she was abandoned by her mother.

Senior warden, Angela Potter is looking after the young Grey Bennett wallaby until she is big enough to be moved to an enclosure.

Roo, who is five-months old, is one of eight youngsters born this year and Mrs Potter said it was rare for a mother to reject her offspring although it did happen from time to time.

She added: "Roo is lovely. She is very friendly. She comes home with me and she hops around the house. I have two kittens and she hops around them - she thinks she's a cat. She is part of the family."

The warden said the baby was doing well and had moved from evaporated milk to solid food such as grass and wallaby feed.

She will be kept in the enclosure until she is bigger and will join the rest of the wallaby group in the park next Spring.

Mrs Potter, who has worked at the park for 27 years and hand-reared wallabies during that time, said: "She will be hopping around like a wallaby and stop thinking she is a cat."

She added: "I really enjoy looking after them and living with them. I think we miss them more than they miss us when they leave."

Roo is one of 90 Grey Bennett wallabies in the park, which also has 18 White wallabies.
