BROMSGROVE Rovers' need to add some firepower for the 2005/2006 season became a top priority for manager Jimmy Mullen this week after last season's top scorer Paul Szewczyk joined Hednesford Town.

Szewczyk, who scored 45 goals in 76 appearances for the club and was affectionately known as 'Shevvy' by the fans, could not resist the pull of Hednesford, who won promotion to the Nationwide Conference North last season.

However, this means Mullen needs to bring in two strikers who can fire Rovers to promotion out of the Southern League Division One West next season.

Mullen said: "I'm disappointed Paul has left. Goalscorers are rarer than gold dust.

"But it's a challenge for him and I won't stand in a young man's career."

The Rovers boss targeted two strikers, a defender and a goalkeeper to bolster the squad.

Rovers are in urgent need of an experienced goalkeeper after Matt Lowe and Ian Gandy both retired.

The Bromsgrove boss though confirmed to the Advertiser/Messenger that he is in talks with four players, which fill the gaping holes in the squad.

He said: "At the moment I'm dealing with the agents of two players and two more on their own. The ball's in their court at the moment but I'm hopeful."
