INSPECTORS say "the future looks bright" for The Chantry High School in Martley.

The secondary school's latest report from the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) gave the school a 'good' rating, the second highest out of four.

But headteacher Caroline Browne said she was not complacent and her priority for the future was to make students "more aspirational".

She said: "Ofsted have said we are a good school but that if we can be sharper with our evaluation of students we can be outstanding.

"We like to think we are very strong in the area of personal development and well-being and our aim is to get up to that level in everything else.

"What was really pleasing was that they said we were a school trying to improve and having success in improving."

Ms Browne said the next step was to make students even better.

She said: "We are getting kids who are maybe predicted a B and we are saying, can we squeeze an A out of them?

"Obviously it's not just about grades but we want them to become more aspirational and do better than they think they can do."

The report said it was an exciting time, with new buildings and improved facilities.

It added: "The future looks bright for the school, which has recently achieved technology college status.

"Staff morale is good and staff are embracing new ideas and are keen to improve. They are behind the headteacher's commitment and vision."

The Chantry was criticised for the consistency of its marking and was told to give a clearer indication to students about how they chould improve.

It said: "Assessment information is not used consistently to plan lessons that meet students' individual needs and marking does not always tell students how to improve."
