OUR 2-1 victory over Evesham United on Saturday was pleasing and shows that we have made progress during the pre-season campaign.

It was a good performance and we played some good football.

Our passing and movement was good and we scored two good goals, which was pleasing.

The goal we conceded was a bit disappointing and we didn't defend as well as we can do at set-pieces.

We made a lot of changes in the second-half and looked a bit disorganised after that.

We didn't play well in the second-half but I think that was because we made so many changes.

We didn't look like a team and individual performances suffered in the second-half, which was a little bit disappointing.

I was pleased with the whole team but it's good that all our strikers have now got off the mark.

That's very important and will give them confidence.

Craig Wilding scored against Rochdale, Troy Wood got a hat-trick at Malvern and now Adam Webster has got off the mark.

Jay Sztybel, who is a young lad from Walsall, came in and did really well.

I was really pleased with his performance.

He was very positive with his running and he couldn't do much more.

He's one of a few trialists we've got at the moment.

Adam Wooton is another who has done pretty well and we'll make a decision on him, along with Tom Birch and Shane Cartwright, by the end of the week.

To be fair, in the first-half, all of the team played well.

Dale Watkins had a good game and there were a number of good performances.

It was very pleasing in the first-half.

We are now halfway through our pre-season games and I think the fitness levels have been good.

We have had a mix of games and I have been pleased with our performances.

Having said that, there is plenty of room for improvement, which is what you would expect at this stage of the season.

We've now got games against a number of league sides and we finish off with a match against Kidderminster Harriers on August 5.

That's where we are aiming to get to and we will need to be at that level of fitness for the start of the season.

I think the players get fatigued a little more in this heat and we have to take that into consideration.

But the condition of the ground is another thing that makes it difficult for players at the moment.

Some people are suffering -- we would probably prefer it a bit cooler and a bit wetter.

The lads have worked very hard and we just have to make sure that everybody gets re-hydrated as quickly as possible and gets some fluids into their body.

It does make things more difficult and it would be nice to get a bit of rain, not least because the pitch at St George's Lane needs it.
