A VISITOR to Droitwich has praised the actions of two young lads who returned her lost handbag after she left it at a town park.

Denise Tandy, who was visiting the Spa from Torquay, decided to take advantage of the good weather to eat fish and chips in Vines Park. But when she moved, she left her bag on one of the benches near to the footpath which runs through the park.

Only after driving off, and stopping at the garage in Worcester Road, did Mrs Tandy realise she had left her precious bag behind.

"I drove back to Vines Park, resigned to the fact that my handbag would almost certainly have disappeared," she said.

However, to her delight, two young lads - who had been fishing in the canal - had noticed the bag and held onto it for safe keeping hoping she would return.

"As they saw my daughter enter the park one of the lads came racing up to tell us that he had found the handbag. In that bag there was money, mobile phone, bankcards, driving licence and various other items that seem to accumulate in handbags. I had felt physically sick at the thought of losing my bag and having to replace the above items.

"You can imagine my sheer delight that these two honest and admirable young men had taken it upon themselves to be responsible for holding on to my possessions," she said.

Following the incident Mrs Tandy contacted the Advertiser/Messenger to praise the two lads.

"It was great to be back in Droitwich as a visitor on such a sunny summer's day and to meet two terrific ambassadors for the town."

She does not know the identity of the youngsters, but believes they are between the ages of 15 and 17.

"So if you are the parents of either of these two lads may I congratulate you on raising such fine young men. It makes a change to be able to say something positive about younger people," she said.
