EVESHAM'S Simon Andrews was busy at Cheshire's Oulton Park, competing in two premier championships despite a broken finger.

Andrews' luck was not in during the British Supersport Series though as he failed to finish while competing for Piranha Racing after mechanical problems.

He did complete the British Superbikes for Jentin Racing but was disappointed not to secure a better position.

In dry and hot conditions, Andrews qualified fifth in the Supersport session and had a good start in the race, settling into fourth place.

However, a bolt sheared in the bike's bell housing on lap five, forcing a withdrawal.

Andrews is 11th in the Supersport table but was delighted to get a chance in the Superbikes too.

He qualified 11th and had a good solid first race, finishing 13th.

In the second contest, Andrews held his grid position from the start and was eighth for several laps ahead of a group of riders.

But then he missed a gear down the back straight into the second chicane and the pack flew past, relegating the Worcestershire racer to 15th.

He admitted: "It was my mistake and I paid the price."

But team manager Andy Colbourne said: "Simon's performance over the weekend was one of the best I've seen.

"He had just recovered from a virus, carrying bruising from a previous crash and riding with a broken finger, which he had not told anyone about until after the racing!"
