AN Evesham mother is warning parents in the Vale to keep a close eye on their children when out on Port Street after her three-year-old son fell and cut his hand on a shard of glass in a doorway.

Rachel Grimmett was out shopping with her son Brooke Moulton when he tripped on a step near a doorway at 1, Port Street.

"It wasn't a major cut but if he had been any nearer to the door who knows. He tripped and as he went to save himself using his hands, he fell on the glass.

"I grabbed him quickly and then saw that the door was smashed and there was a massive piece of glass there that could take a child's finger off."

She added: "Thankfully he wasn't too hurt but I want to warn others just in case.

"Brooke is shocked more than anything, he only cut his finger near his nail but I'm worried it could be worse next time around. Not just for children but for adults too, if someone walks home a little bit merry one evening who knows what will happen, they could trip up too and with the shard of glass hanging down I dread to think what could happen."

The building was originally leased by Civil Environment and Project Services limited in Evesham but a spokesman for the company confirmed that they moved from the premises a while ago and no longer have anything to do with the building or its upkeep.

A spokeswoman for Persimmon Homes confirmed they own the building and are currently in the process of selling it.

She said now they have been made aware of the situation, they will be sending an agent to the premises to survey the damage and look at further action.
