UNIVERSITY of Worcester vice chancellor Professor David Green has received a prestigious honour in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Worcestershire.

The Worcestershire Ambassadors presented Prof Green with their Pride of Worcestershire Award at their annual ball at Sixways last Saturday.

The organisation, co-ordinated by Worcestershire County Council, brings together key business people and organisations who actively promote the county.

Prof Green was recognised for his own positive impact upon Worcestershire - in particular, for securing full university status for the former University College, the Institution's expansion plans for a new £100m second city campus, and joint work with the county council on a £50m library and history centre. These projects will create an exciting new learning and cultural quarter for the centre of Worcester.

Michael Brinton, Lord Lieutenant for Worcestershire, presented the award. He said: "This award is given to a person who has enhanced the reputation and standing of the county of Worcestershire. Prof Green's work to secure university title and future university expansion plans have, and will continue to greatly improve, the standings of this county."

Speaking about the accolade, Prof Green said: "It's a real honour to receive this award, which recognises the years of hard work on behalf of many, many people in securing full university title. The university is deeply committed to helping to raise the profile of this county and continue to enhance both Worcestershire's academic and economic prospects."

Prof Green joins an illustrious list of past winners, who include Worcester Rugby Club chairman Cecil Duckworth for his contributions to sport and the environment, and Alan Curless for his work with the Learning and Skills Council.
