TWO superb George Clegg free-kicks helped Worcester City come from behind twice to earn a point against Nun-eaton Borough last night.

Clegg found the bottom corner with pin-point accuracy in each half of an enthralling contest at St George's Lane.

A draw seemed a fair result but City finished the stronger in a match they looked out of after going 2-0 down inside the first quarter-of-an-hour.

But Andy Preece's side, looking to build on the 1-0 win at Barrow, were level at the break and the hosts sought to win the contest despite falling behind again from the penalty spot mid-way through the second-half.

City started brightly but were behind on five minutes when Martin Reeves was left with an easy tap-in after Danny McDonnell had saved Gez Murphy's close range effort.

Things got worst for Preece's men eight minutes later when Murphy's exquisite turn in the box took out two City defenders and the striker beat Mc-Donnell at the near post despite the stopper getting a hand to the ball.

Nuneaton were looking every inch a side tipped to be among promotion contenders and appeared to have City where they wanted them.

The hosts though began to get back into the match and pulled one back on 23 minutes through Clegg's first piece of magic.

The former Manchester United trainee deftly got the ball up and over the Nuneaton wall with his left foot, leaving Darren Acton with no chance.

Three minutes later City had completed a remarkable turnaround as Troy Wood got on the end of Craig Wilding's nod down to squeeze the ball past Acton at his near post.

City were now in the ascendancy and playing with the belief borne out of Saturday's victory.

The game opened up in the second-half with both sides having chances to gain the upper hand.

Sam Wedgbury, making a welcome return to the Lane after signing as late cover for Jay Sztybel in a one-off loan game from Sheffield United, signalled City's intentions early on by trying his luck from 40 yards.

City though were let off the hook just minutes later when a poor Danny Hodnett header let in Murphy but the striker, who gave Middlesbrough a run for their money in the FA Cup last season, blazed over when clean through.

Murphy was given chance to make amends on 65 minutes after he was brought down in the penalty area by Dennis Pearce after McDonnell had saved the Nuneaton forward's initial shot. Murphy duly obliged by beating McDonnell low to his right.

City again went in search of an equaliser as a buoyant home crowd got behind their team.

When Clegg placed the ball for his 79th-minute free-kick their was a tangible expectancy, matched only by the roar as Clegg bent the ball past Acton from 30 yards.
