A QUIET Bromsgrove pensioner died just three weeks after winning a £110,000 fortune in a spot-the-ball competition. Len Wilkes, aged 74 who lived in Stratford Road was not able to enjoy the fruits of his unexpected windfall of cash, luxury goods and a Vauxhall Estate car. He was said to be in "not the best health" in the days leading up to his death.
GOALSCORING machine Kevin Truswell earned battling Bromsgrove Rovers a 1-1 draw in their pre-season friendly against West Bromwich Albion. Albion had taken the lead early on through their winger Summerfield.
WASELEY Hills Country Park planted a small collection of beech and pine trees to commemorate the Royal wedding. The commemorative trees were to be sited next to the Jubilee plantation. Waseley Hills was one of four sites chosen for the scheme.
A POPULAR local folk group said farewell to its founder member. Fairfield Folk presented Graham Skitt with an engraved tankard.
