DO our local councillors intend closing Droitwich Spa Bowls Club to sell it to developers?

At a meeting earlier this month town and district councillors for Droitwich voted to fence off the Lido Park/bowls club car park and lock it at dusk each day, on pretexts cars leaving after dark disturb new luxury apartments across the road.

They well know the bowls club hosts small low-key events some evenings which affect no-one but provide revenue to keep it going. Ergo, no car park, no functions, no club, no obstruction to developers.

Are they closing busy Worcester Road from Highfields island to Chapel Bridge? Will other park entrances be locked to stop yobs after dark? Both cause more noise to surrounding properties than mature citizens behaving with consideration.

If councillors want to monitor this car park for other less responsible users they should just re-align existing CCTV cameras covering an empty bandstand and now vanished indoor pool, to look across/over the bowling green and its little clubhouse to that car park beyond.

Or is their much publicised 24-hour CCTV coverage not linked to anywhere useful like the police HQ. It's cheaper than fencing and I have a spare screwdriver they can borrow if that's not too technical.

Good folk of The Worcestershire, Rowan Court, and Whittingham House paid premium property prices for views of a lovely park including bowling greens, not 15ft high perimeter fences, security lights on all night, and hoardings advertising 'Prime development site for sale'.
