Droitwich 281-6 Chaddesley Corbett 161-9
Droitwich grab a
winning draw
DROITWICH CC's hopes of winning the title were hit after they were held to a draw by defiant Chaddesley Corbett in the Worcestershire League Division One on Saturday.
Spa were unable to bowl out a determined Chaddesley tail end as the points were shared in a competitive local derby.
The draw means that Droitwich have slipped 52 points behind leaders Kington, who defeated Bewdley.
Captain Paul Bryan won the toss and decided that Droitwich should bat first. Openers Jerome Connor (27) and Alex Kolb (11) got their side off to a solid start but it was Australian batsman Josh Staines' emphatic 94 runs off 91 balls that put Spa in charge. Andrew Van Vuuren also hit 80 not out as Droitwich finished on a challenging 281-6 in 50 overs.
Droitwich made an early breakthrough with the ball when Mark Webster and Jonathon Riches were bowled by Van Vuuren (4-56).
However, stubborn batting by Mark Edwards (17), Paul Brookes (30) and Kevin Truswell (25) guided Corbett to 161-9 by the 50th over.
