A DECISION whether a £50,000 grant will be awarded to fund the redevelopment of a play area in Ronkswood, Worcester, will be made at the end of this month.

The play area at the back of Ronkswood Community Centre, off Canterbury Road, is currently too small to use as a five-a-side football pitch so under the plans the playing surface will be enlarged to an acceptable size.

There will also be a mesh fence placed around it, a new seating area as well as a path that will link the pitch with the community centre. Worcester City Council has applied for the funding from Barclays Bank under its Space for Sports scheme.

Angie Rich, the city council's assistant community services manager, said: "Barclays has still not made a decision yet. A decision won't be made until August 31."

She said that some details in the application that was submitted to Barclays about the proposal are being clarified.

The plan also includes a floodlight being placed by the pitch in addition to the one that is already there.
