A YOUTH worker from a Bromsgrove community centre has been suspended after a teenage boy was left behind at a Midlands theme park following a group outing.

The worker, from the Multi Agency Resource Centre in Charford, was supervising a group of youngsters on a day trip to Drayton Manor Park near Tamworth.

After the coach had pulled away to head back to Bromsgrove it emerged that a 16-year-old, who had travelled with the group as a volunteer helper, had been left stranded at the theme park.

The youth worker, who has not been named, is now facing a disciplinary hearing. The trip was held on August 2.

Centre manager Debbie Roberts confirmed that a member of staff had been suspended and a disciplinary hearing was set to take place.

"I can confirm that on a trip to Drayton Manor Park a 16-year-old male was left behind," she said.

"The error was discovered almost immediately and the coach was turned around to go back and pick him up.

"We phoned Drayton Manor to establish his safety and he was waiting in reception.

"The member of staff involved was immediately suspended and an investigation was undertaken.

"We have taken full witness statements and now a disciplinary hearing is underway."

The centre, in Humphrey Avenue, Charford, is the base for a number of youth groups, learning resources, family support groups and a children's centre.
