lTHIS weekend marks the second anniversary of the death of John Barker, former landlord of the Swan at Alfrick and all-round English gentleman.
I've know his daughter Diane for years. She is an accomplished artist and spends much of her time wandering in the Himalayas - however, I had to be satisfied with a wander around her garden when I visited this lovely village recently.
Speaking of travelling, John has done quite a bit himself since crossing the Styx. His ashes were scattered variously at the Talbot Inn, Knightwick, around a newly-planted mulberry tree at Alfrick, and the remainder went to the Himalayas.
John served behind the bar at the Swan for 49 years. Apart from the occasional trip to Wales and the coast he didn't really get around that much. He's certainly making up for it.
