A WORCESTER shop owner spoke of her "complete devastation" after a glass display panel at the front of her store was shattered over the weekend - causing £1,000 of damage.

Karen Turl, who owns memorabilia shop Retro in Lowesmoor, turned up on Saturday morning and was met by a scene of glass and debris scattered all over her shop.

The frontage had been replaced by a large piece of boarding, and piles of broken glass inside the shop had been scattered over the clothes.

Unbeknown to her during the night, an incident involving two men had happened which broke her front panel. Police had called in a firm to board it up in an emergency procedure.

Police arrested two men in the early hours of Saturday morning in connection with the incident - but did not press charges and released the pair with a caution.

She only opened up the store two weeks ago and spoke of her heartache in trying to clear up the mess.

"I came to open up on Saturday at 10am, and found a piece of boarding at the front of the shop, with a note saying the glass front was shattered overnight," she said.

"Nothing has been taken from the shop, so it wasn't a break-in.

"I can only guess it might have been a fight or something, and someone knocked into my window, because there was some blood on the glass.

"When I opened the door there was glass everywhere inside. I'm completely devastated about it and just feel awful. Someone must have called the police overnight, so I'm lucky in that respect, that it was boarded up without anything being stolen, but at the same time I'm really upset.

"I'm an independent trader, and it's difficult to get things going when you start a shop. Running the store gives me enormous pleasure.

"The worst thing is the fact I will have to pay £250 out myself and use my insurance to fork out the rest, because there were no charges against the people arrested."

A spokeswoman for Worcester police confirmed two men were arrested following the incident but released with a caution - because it was believed to be an accident.
